The Yoko Miwa Trio With Special Guest Rebecca Parris, Friday 2/15
On Friday, February 15, the Yoko Miwa Trio will play with renowned jazz singer Rebecca Parris as a special guest at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, MA.

Parris has won the Boston Music Awards nine times, and her earthy, grounded sound has captivated audiences from Boston to the Apollo Theater in NYC to the Oslo Jazz Festival. Some have called her “Boston’s First Lady of Jazz.” She grew up in a family of musicians and music educators, and she teaches music, as well. While she has experience in musical theater and got her start singing pop, Parris found her true calling in jazz standards.
In an interview with Marian McPartland on the NPR show Piano Jazz, Parris said that rediscovering her love of jazz “was like manna from heaven for me.” In the same interview, she said that when she chooses songs from her repertoire for a show, she always has mood of the songs and the audience in mind, and thinks of it like bringing the audience into a series of movies with her. However, when choosing songs to learn, Parris takes a more intuitive approach. “It’s simply about going inward and finding where you had that song living in you.”
Having the Yoko Miwa Trio and Rebecca Parris together on one stage couldn’t happen at a better time, because it’s Valentine’s Day weekend. Tickets are available at the Rockport Music website.
